They are normally for use as cooking oil, food supplements, cosmetics, soaps, biofuel, and ingredient for other biotech products. The major edible oils that account for significant portion of worldwide edible oil production include coconut oil, corn oil, cottonseed oil, olive oil, palm oil, peanut oil, rapeseed oil, safflower oil, sesame oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil, etc.

Palm Oil Industry in General Palm oil is one of the most widely produced edible oil in the world. It is extracted from the fruits of the oil palm trees that are cultivated in
large scales plantations. Oil palm trees originated from West Africa where it grows in the wild and was first introduced into Malaysia by the British in the early 1870’s. With the recognition of its importance and potentials very early in the 1900s, the government of Malaysia launched several strategic agricultural programs to developed and harness the potentials of the Palm Oil industry into an important agricultural crop to meet the demands for Palm Oil.

Today, both Malaysia and Indonesia contribute in excess of 85% of the world’s production and export of Palm Oil. Palm oil is commonly used as cooking oil, industrial lubricant, ingredient of processed foods, and also for the production of soap, personal care and other hygiene products. Palm oil is also an important component for the production of biodiesel.
